Momma Molasses 7:00-9:00pm Momma Molasses is a musical project created by N.C. based songwriter Ella Patrick. Originally from the Sandhills "The Pines" of North Carolina, Ella grew up singing gospel songs in church and was inspired by her ballader Uncle to pick up the guitar. She ventured from home to western North Carolina, and studied Old-time music, and Art at Warren Wilson College. Afterwards, Ella played fiddle for Asheville based band, The New Olde Fashioneds. However, after a bout of heartbreak, and homesickness she returned home to Carthage N.C. and began to write songs, and define her unique fingerpicking guitar style. Self proclaimed "weird kid" and "general questioner of reality" her music naturally draws on a wide range of ideas, combining Alt-Country, blues, honky-folksy/ wonky-tonk into a sweet dripping sound. |

The Bluegrass Battleship 7:00-9:00pm Hailing from the epicenter of The Home That Is Down, The Bluegrass Battleship is a rootsy juggernaut of epic proportions. Can your mortal ears withstand their foot-stomping, unassuming onslaught? Oh, no, no, no, no, no. No, they cannot. With seven musicians, the Battleship is larger (and, of course, better) than most. The crew – Jane, Catherine, Scott, Mel, Marc, Danny and Terry – are all on board having fun, and you will be, too — singing along, dancing, or just tapping your foot. It's impossible not to be part of this great American music. Played with skill and love for the music, The Bluegrass Battleship sails straight and true. Find out more, here. |

Ricky Garni
Garni is a graduate of Duke University and long time resident of North Carolina. He has worked over the years as a teacher, wine merchant, musician, graphic designer, electronic machinest and organizer of poetry events. Mr. Garni began writing poetry in 1978, and has produced over thirty volumes of prose and verse since 1995. He is presently completing a number of different projects: a collection of episode synopses collages based upon 50 sitcoms from 1950 to 1990 entitled TELEFRICASSEE, a small volume of ekphrastic poetry based upon rare photographs of celebrities translated into ink by a variety of artists, and a series of 57 poems based upon a chronological Google search of the past 57 years. His work can be found in over four hundred online publications, print magazines and anthologies and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize for Poetry on seven occasions. In 2013, SAND magazine accepted his poem “Scale” in their translation issue; it was incorrectly identified as a Chinese poem translated into English, and Ricky considers it both his greatest and most dubious achievement to date. |
Alex Hart
As a Sophomore at Millbrook High, Alex Hart is an aspiring cheapskate, and Cosmonaut. As a self diagnosed nihilist, she naturally enjoys long and aimless walks in her suburban area, with no true goals in mind other than to one day reach the horizon and see what lies at the edge. She is a musician and poet, and tends to look up to Soviet writers who played Russian Roulette with themselves several times, before losing, to the New York Yankees. Her music taste consists of mainly 1960s Bollywood soundtracks, people with snipers aimed at them, and occasionally Sufjan Stevens. Check out Alex's short film here. |

Pop Up Broadway Chorus 5:00-7:30pm hosted by Glenn Mehrbach TITLE: “Love and Marriage” Celebrate the spirit of the fast-approaching Valentine’s Day with 3 songs by the musical theatre world’s most celebrated solo songwriters, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Stephen Sondheim. These songs take us on a journey through the stages of love, with a paean to falling in love, an ode to getting hitched, and a comic meditation long-term relationships. Here’s the songs: “Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall in Love)” - written in 1928 by Cole Porter for the Broadway musical “Paris” “An Old Fashioned Wedding” - written in 1966 by Irving Berlin for a revival of “Annie Get Your Gun” “The Little Things We Do Together” - written in 1970 by Stephen Sondheim for “Company” As usual, the first hour will be an open mic and sing-along. So bring your favorite love songs to share, from the good (“S’Wonderful”) to the ambiguous (“Glad to be Unhappy”) to the not so good (“Down in the Depths on the 90th Floor”). I also encourage you to join in the tradition of Noël Coward and write and share your own updated topical lyrics for “Let’s Do It.” I’ll start things off with a couplet or two of my own. Head over here to RSVP to the event. |

John the Revelator 7:00-9:00pm John the Revelator is the solo project of Jake Garrett. Jake is more known for his blues rock trio MasonJar Menagerie and his newly founded record label, DeepRoots Family Records and Productions. Along with MasonJar, Jake plays with 6 other bands regularly. Many of which, he writes the music for. Jake has been writing songs for over a decade, compiling 100’s of songs. John the Revelator acts an outlet for these numerous songs that he isn't using with other projects. The name John the Revelator derives from an old Blind Willie Johnson song. This is also where Jake draws a lot of inspiration from. Jake does a brilliant job at mixing all of his inspirations and sounding like something completely unique. Using a variety of instruments and his rare vocal styling, John the Revelator dares to do what many artists won’t attempt. John the Revelator is raw and electric. |
Immediately following graduation from college in Boston, the five members of art-pop band, Midnight Snack, hit the road in 2014 for an autumn of touring. With them, they took the additional goal of finding a place to call home given their new freedom, and by the spring of 2015 the group had moved to Asheville, NC. They’ve since settled into a shared house, constructed a studio, and most recently have completed work on their newest album.
Child’s Eyes is the third full-length from the project started by brothers Jack Victor (vocals, drums) and Mike Henry Johnson (guitar/synth) before their enrollment in college. Through the addition of classmates Peter Brownlee (bass) and Zack Kardon (guitar)—as well as old friend, Katie Richter (vocals, trumpet)--Midnight Snack have developed a varied and eclectic sound, this latest offering the most personal and introspective of their lengthy discography.
Lead single, Magic, showcases a more soulful side to the group’s varied influences, fusing the intimacy of a Sufjan Stevens soundscape with the playfulness of Talking Heads. Victor takes a commonly autobiographical approach with his lyrics and the band supports his sentiments through a tasteful arrangement. Magic exemplifies Midnight Snack’s effectiveness as a team and paves an exciting path for what’s to follow.

Elle Carpenter 7:00-9:00pm "Musically, ["Life Just Happens to You"] is robust with rich melodies, dynamic interludes and exceptional singing. There isn’t much to complain about in this department as long as you don’t mind a good pop song. I would embrace pop music more if someone like Carpenter were on mainstream radio." -Indie Music Reviews USA Originally from Vermont, Elle Carpenter has been singing as long as she's been walking. She spent significant childhood years touring around the country with four siblings and her mother, performing and doing workshops at folk festivals, schools and other events. At age 6 she had her first music studio experience, singing back-up as one of the "Wee-bops" of Central Vermont. Soon afterwards she recorded another album with a folk group called the Fiddleheads. From age 10 to 16 Elle toured with world/folk music group Village Harmony, traveling around the USA, UK, Canada, Denmark and Germany. Elle's fourth album, "Life Just Happens To You" was released on May 22, 2015. This album - an acoustic folk/rock/country compilation - was a true reflection of the diversity she has experienced in her life as a musician, and was Elle's first step into the world of Americana. |
