Canceled - Saturday, June 4: Laura Thurston - Folk Singer-Songwriter, 7:00-9:00pm

Laura brings multi-instrumentalism to a new level! You will be enthralled when you see this lovely lady rappin’ on a suitcase kick drum with one foot and tappin’ on a tambourine with the other; all the while, hands on her guitar and mouth on her harp. On top of that, Laura then adds sweet sugary vocals to her acoustic Folk-Grass mix while giving energy and presence to capture your attention.

This talented musician launched her solo career in 2011, performing up and down the east coast. With her original ideas and talented executions this one woman band is sure to dazzle any audience. Laura Thurston has her own unique style from a vintage era that will enliven you and have you feelin fine.

"It isn't unusual for musicians to be multi-talented instrumentally — a little guitar, a little percussion, maybe some piano. But folk singer-songwriter Laura Thurston takes it a step further by playing four instruments at the same time in her original songs. Armed with a guitar, harmonica, tambourine and suitcase kick drum, Thurston is a one-woman band" ~ Alexa Milan, Sanford Herald

from Decorah, Iowa.
John Goodin was raised in southern Indiana and began playing the guitar shortly after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in February of 1964.Ten years later he discovered the mandolin. A longtime member of the Classical Mandolin Society of America, Goodin has composed over twenty works for mandolin orchestra; four of these are published by Trekel Musikverlag. Many of these pieces have been performed and/or recorded by mandolin orchestras around the world.

When playing solo mandolin John mixes traditional and original fiddle tunes with baroque era pieces either composed for mandolin or borrowed from composers who somehow failed to write for the instrument. He will also play some of his own more “classical” pieces, many of these also in an 18th century style.

Goodin has recorded 4 CDs and continues to perform around the country with the popular contra dance band Contratopia and in recent years has also released two solo CDs, Mandolin Tunes & Deer Tracks for Solo Mandolin, along with a duo CD with fiddler Erik Sessions, Notes from the Farm.
